The  association Graines de Joie Développement

Olivier PATTUS, an Air France pilot flying  monthly  to OUAGADOUGOU, met in 1999, Sister TOMASA, a Peruvian nun in mission in  Burkina Faso (working through the " working missionaries community", first women catholic mission to be send in Africa before the independance) She tried with the help of sister Elisabeth SOALLA to take care  of 150 kids (orphans). Theese were temporarly gathered in families in the bush village of Guiloungou. Face to the increasing number of babies , girls and boys, Tomasa had planned to create an orphanage and to look for financial funds !Olivier PATTUS decided to help the community to organise the new centre and to build the necessary buildings. By this way, he created  the section BURKINA  of the association  GRAINES DE JOIE and was in charge of all the projects (dormitory, school, refectory, pigsty and many other things....). So, since the last 7 year, the association " GRAINES DE JOIE DEVELOPMENT" manage with the community the orphanage STE THERESE situated in LUMBILA ( 10 minutes'drive from Ouagadougou)

We want the center to be able to insure the kids health and education the best as possible. The center must be totally independant in the furture and we have to give us the means to insure their furture auronomy. THAT IS THE OBJECTIVE of our association.

Graines de joie developpement works closely with the Sisters and adapt the help, we are in Lumbila every month to organize the center , to check our construction , to adapt the future programs..
 

How we are fonctionning ?

The association try to collect  clothes, medicines, toys, school stationeries, milk... It assures a monthly and permanent following of the centre.
 

A great part of the members are working for Air france and so, the association has no management charges ... The accounts. All the collected funds for the kids are directly given to the sisters.
 

All the members are working for free, they organize many actions to collect funds (diner, evening spectacle, car games, tombola,  pictures exposure...)
We invested in the orphanage for a total of    130 000 USD since 2000 ; big companies helped us as VEOLIA ENVIRONMENT, AIR FRANCE airline, south french administration, MARSEILLE city, and many other else. We have generous private donators as well.

With this money we built :

- one dormitory

-one school ( 6 class rooms with fans) NOW WE NEED 6 MORE CLASSES

-one refertory for 200 kids

-one pigsty

In 2005, the association decided to find a solution  to finance the schooling of the children   ( of the orphanage and those of the village of lumbila). So a sponsorship program has been launched for each school year. Any people can take care of one or more child for one school year. You'll receive a picture with the name of the child and you'll be informed of him twice a year. . ARE YOU INTERESTED IN ?
