The global project
The Centre of Lumbila, in
progress, will welcome eventually 150 children from 0 to 16
years old. The orphanage is managed by the sisters
Marie-Claire and Marie-Thérèse, the members of the Monastic
community of the Worker Missionaries, who are present and
active in numerous developing countries. Thanks to
the networks which they developed by means
other associations (in
the USA, in Spain, in Italy), the children are
accommodated, fed, looked after and schooled on the spot. The
objective is to return this auto-sufficient
orphanage and to assure the education and the
forming of the children up to their entrance to the active
life. The 14
hectare ground was given up by the municipality. Four
buildings were already built as well as a well and a water
tower. The
construction of dormitories and places of life continues
for several years. A nursery school of 3 classes was
opened, assuring the schooling and the elimination of
illiteracy in the small. A training centre should soon
allow to assure(insure) the forming(training) of the
biggest thanks to workshops of learning of the traditional
craft (work of the wood, the mechanics, the sewing)
The centre is already
organized for the food autosufficiency: a kitchen garden
is maintained by the oldest children, and the breeding of
numerous animals (hens, rabbits, cows, goats) comes to
complete the food contribution. Besides, the orphanage dashed successfully into the culture of an alga " the spiruline ". This alga, used in Europe as food complement in slimming diets (!), is given to the children to fight the food deficiencies. The orphanage sells its superfluous production. In 2005 was set up a program of "sponsorings" aiming at financing the schooling of the children who frequent the school of the orphanage. Indeed, in Burkina, the Department of Education does not pay the teachers whose salary stays chargeable to the relatives(parents) of the children.
Thanks to the commitment of
their respective godfathers and godmothers, all the children
of the orphanage, as well as those of the village
subscribers at the school, are at present insured to pursue
a free schooling. News are exchanged regularly by mail or
via internet To date, the main sectors of the project are:
2003 - OPERATION " SCHOOL FOR ALL"
